History

Compac Furniture is a family business owned and operated by the Simpkin family since 1995. The business is located in the Northland town of Dargaville (Population 5000) and provides employment for about 25 staff from the town and surrounding districts. Currently, brothers, Mervyn and Ken Simpkin and six other family members provide the firm’s vision and management.

The business was established by Ken in the late 1980’s as a general joinery and kitchen supplier. The business grew and in the early 1990s began specializing in production runs of bathroom cabinets before branching out into flat-pack furniture in 1993. Mervyn bought the business in 1995, established the “Compac Furniture” brand and expanded it to supply both ready to assemble and fully built-up furniture to furniture retailers and mainstream chain stores such as “The Warehouse” and “Farmers Trading”.

2005 saw the installation of a complete in-house panel laminating line, which coupled with additional machining and processing equipment, ensures full control over raw material processing from beginning to end. With the factory now covering some 6000 square metres Compac Furniture has become one of New Zealand’s leading furniture manufacturers.

Compac has developed a reputation that has distinguished the company from overseas suppliers by the prompt delivery of quality laminated furniture.

Quality

When you invest in furniture - quality matters.  Low prices are no use if the things you buy don’t last. Compac Furniture has understood this since the very first shipment in 1995. Compac Furniture follows strict in-house quality checking procedures and is able to trace every finished product back to the raw materials used to make it. Compac backs all this with a 5 year guarantee.

All materials are carefully scrutinised before they are processed to ensure that they meet our strict quality and environmental standards.
Board products are made from 100% NZ pine fibre and are manufactured to the highest quality standards in the industry. Compac Furniture only uses full density MDF to ensure maximum screw holding ability.

All hardware items are thoroughly tested by our product development team before being accepted for production.
Laminates are imported from a number of leading suppliers in Germany, Spain and Taiwan and are subjected to exhaustive testing to ensure durability standards such as the rigorous IKEA R4 standards are met.

Design

Why shouldn’t low priced furniture look cool?

Good design considers functionality, appearance, price and the environment. At Compac furniture our design team does just that. Every item, in every range is designed with you in mind. By listening to and analysing what our customers want, then designing the item to make maximum use of materials we not only reduce wastage but we can produce furniture which is attractive, functional and truly value for money – both for you and the environment.

Productivity Matters...

When you want value – productivity matters. This has been one of the key points in Compac’s success in the competitive, low to mid price range New Zealand furniture market. Compac has a long history of upgrading equipment and developing innovative solutions to reduce processing times and save costs. Substantial investments have been made not only on high speed CNC processing technology but also extensive material handling and conveying systems. If you save 1 second often enough you can save a lifetime...

Environment

We believe that good function, design and quality shouldn’t cost the earth. That goes for the environment too.

Compac Furniture is committed to reducing our impact on the world around us. All wood based products come from sustainable managed plantation pine forests – a material that’s biodegradable, recyclable and renewable.

At Compac all our wood waste is either composted or processed into briquettes for substituting for coal in other local industries. Instead of a waste product - it’s a resource.

All living things produce formaldehyde. It’s the concentration and exposure to high levels of it which is suspected of being harmful. At Compac we use only E1 or E0 rated wood panels. These are the lowest formaldehyde emission ratings in any wood based panel products – even lower than natural pine. This means you can have full confidence in having our furniture, in your home.

It’s all about bringing Quality and Value together.
